If you've downloaded a design and can't find the an SVG but you see that you have a Chrome HTML Document or an Microsoft Edge HTML document instead, do not worry! "
The HTML document is, in fact, your SVG file! Read on to find out what's happened.
Why do I see Chrome/Microsoft HTML Document instead of an SVG?
In this case your web browser is set as the default program for opening SVGs, which is why the type is being shown as Chrome/Microsoft HTML Document.
Technically, you don't need to do anything - you can open these files in Cricut Design Space, Silhouette Studio, or any SVG editor without taking any action. However, there are some additional steps that we recommend to avoid confusion in the future.
Step 1 - Show file extensions
By showing the file extensions you will be able to see exactly what type of file you have downloaded.
This is a setting in File Explorer under View > Show > File name extensions
In the above video you can see that 'face mask' has become 'face mask.svg' so you can be confident that you've downloaded an SVG file!
Step 2 - Change the default program for opening SVGs
By changing the default program for opening SVGs on your computer, the information in the 'type' column will update.
In the below example, we've set Inkscape as the default program for SVGs
- Right click the Chrome or Edge HTML document
- Choose Open With and then Choose another App
- Pick an SVG editor, such as Inkscape and click the Always option
- You've now changed the default program for opening SVGs and you'll see that the information in the 'type' column has changed to SVG File
